Area Attractions
Portal 31

Portal 31 mine tour is a high-tech experience that utilizes animatronics, rear-screen projection and an IMAX-like extravaganza. All of this can be found underground in a mine used by U.S. Steel, a major coal producer until the late 1960s.

Area Accomdations

Located across from the KY Coal Museum, the Benham SchoolHouse Inn offers guests a special opportunity to step back in time and experience the spirit and hospitality of the people of Appalachia. Once a school for coal camp children, the Inn now offers elegant and comfortable accommodations to its guests while remaining true to its schoolhouse roots.
